Earlier this year Philadelphia Jazz Project sponsored a contest for local musicians. Each winner received a portrait session for promotional images. We photographed five of them!
Drummer Alan Nelson was the first to schedule… I love the shots we got from this session! I was interested in capturing action and Alan wanted a more formal portrait so we did a little bit of both.
Singer Michelle Ray said she absolutely loved Linette’s studio + canvas backdrop portraits and wanted something similar in tone. Michelle and the band were super cool and funny… it was great having them in.
Next up was vocalist Kevin Valentine. We went back and forth about where to shoot… Studio, location 1, location 2, location 3, etc. We ended up in the lobby of the legendary Divine Lorraine hotel… I hadn’t been in the place since long before it’s recent rehab so this was a treat. Kevin came camera ready and we banged out some nice shots.
Geraldine Oliver opted for a studio session with a couple of different looks.
Next up, we grabbed a few studio shots of Joilet Harris before heading outside. It was a beautiful day for a quick jaunt down the street and into the WIssahickon Park!
Thanks to all of the musicians and to everyone at Philadelphia Jazz Project and Cultureworks.
